Breaking Forth: The Blessing(E1) — 7-Day Reflection Journey

Seven morning reflections on the opening teaching of Breaking Forth: The Blessing, on learning to recognise the difference between miracles and blessing.

Day 7 of 7

Day 7 · Sunday, October 11

Live from the Blessing

A New Way to See and Live

Read: Ephesians 1:3

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:”

From the teaching

The goal of changing our perception is not simply to know the difference between blessing and miracle.

It is to live differently.

To recognise the goodness of God in the ordinary. To appreciate what we once overlooked. To steward what has already been placed in our hands. To walk in obedience. To trust God when He chooses to intervene miraculously, while not making miracles the measure of His presence or goodness.

The teaching ends with a powerful distinction:

Miracles are about God. Blessing is how we live.

So perhaps the real question is not, “When will my next miracle happen?”

Perhaps it is, “How am I living with what God has already given me?”

Try today

Choose one blessing you have recognised this week and steward it intentionally today.

Reflect

What is one thing I will begin to see, appreciate, steward, or do differently because I now understand blessing differently?

All 7 days

  1. Day 1 · The Perception Check

    The Perception Check

What Have I Been Calling a Blessing?

    Read: Genesis 12:2

“And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:”

    From the teaching

Our experience of God is often shaped by our perception of how He should move.

We can become so accustomed to dramatic testimonies and supernatural manifestations that we unconsciously begin to measure God's goodness by how spectacular His intervention is.

But what if our perception of blessing needs to be recalibrated?

What if God has been working in our lives in ways we have not learned to recognise?

    Try today

Catch one moment today where you would normally say, “This is just normal,” and pause to recognise God's goodness in it.

    Reflect

What have I come to believe a “blessed life” should look like, and where might that perception be different from what Scripture teaches about blessing?

  2. Day 2 · Blessing & Miracle

    Blessing & Miracle

    Learning to Tell the Difference

    Read: Deuteronomy 28:4-5

“Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep. Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store.”

    From the teaching

Blessing and miracle are both expressions of God's goodness, but they are not the same.

A miracle is a supernatural intervention that disrupts the normal order of things. Blessing, however, can work through the normal processes of life, enhancing and enriching them with God's goodness and favour.

Sometimes God interrupts a process. Sometimes He empowers the process.

A person receiving money unexpectedly to pay their rent may experience a miracle of provision. Another person may have a job, possess the skill to do it well, receive their salary, and pay their rent. That may not look dramatic, but it is still God's blessing at work.

    Try today

Take one practical step toward something you are believing God for that can be pursued through every day means.

    Reflect

Think about the things you are currently believing God for. Which of them may require a miracle, and which may actually be a blessing you need to recognise, cultivate, receive, or walk in?

  3. Day 3 · The Blessing in the Ordinary

    The Blessing in the Ordinary

    What Have I Stopped Seeing?

    Read: Proverbs 10:22

“The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.”

    From the teaching

One of the easiest things to overlook is what has become normal.

Health. A sound mind. A home. A job. A skill. Relationships. Opportunities. Provision. Peace. The ability to wake up, work, grow, learn, serve, and continue walking with God.

Because these things happen within the ordinary processes of life, we may stop seeing God's goodness in them.

But ordinary does not mean insignificant.

Sometimes, what we call “normal life” is actually a life being continuously enriched by God's blessing.

    Try today

Take some minutes, sit with a pen and paper or a notepad and write out one blessing in your life, you usually overlook. Thank God for it as an expression of His goodness.

    Reflect

What is one ordinary part of my life that I need to start seeing again as an expression of God's goodness and blessing?

  4. Day 4 · What Kind of Life Am I Living?

What Kind of Life Am I Living?

    Circumstantial or Continuous?

    Read: Genesis 8:22

“While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.”

    From the teaching

Miracles are often rare and circumstantial. They arise at particular moments when supernatural intervention is needed.

Blessing, however, is continuous and ongoing. It is woven into daily life and faith.

The teaching uses Israel's experience of manna to illustrate this. Manna was God's supernatural provision in the wilderness, but it eventually ceased when they entered the Promised Land. There was a shift from extraordinary provision to a life in which seedtime and harvest could operate.

So the question is not simply, “Can God perform a miracle?”

    Of course He can.

The deeper question is: What kind of life am I learning to live?

    Try today

Take one deeper step and participate intentionally in one continuous process already producing fruit in your life.

    Reflect

Am I building my expectations around occasional supernatural intervention, or am I learning to recognise and walk in the continuous blessing God has already made available to me?

  5. Day 5 · When the Miracle Points Beyond You

When the Miracle Points Beyond You

    Why Does God Perform Miracles?

    Read: John 11:41-42

“Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.”

    From the teaching

A miracle is not merely an extraordinary solution to an extraordinary problem.

The teaching describes miracles as signs that arrest attention and point people to God's power and glory. The raising of Lazarus, for example, was not simply about Lazarus receiving more days on earth. The miracle revealed who Jesus is and brought glory to God.

The teaching also gives another striking example: children born through miraculous intervention to women who had been barren. The point was not merely that barrenness had ended. Their stories pointed beyond the immediate family need and became part of something greater.

So if God does something miraculous in your life, what will the miracle point people toward?

Will the miracle become the destination, or will it point you back to the One who performed it?

    Try today

When you share something God has done for you today, deliberately point the attention back to God rather than only to the outcome.

    Reflect

If God performs a miracle in the area I am believing Him for, what should that miracle reveal about Him beyond what it does for me?

  6. Day 6 · The Miracle I Have Been Chasing

The Miracle I Have Been Chasing

    Am I Overlooking the Blessing?

    Read: 1 Kings 19:11-12

“And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.”

    From the teaching

There is nothing wrong with believing God for miracles.

But there is a danger in becoming so fascinated by the spectacular that we overlook the supernatural work happening quietly in our everyday lives.

The Holy Spirit may be leading through a still, quiet voice. God may be sustaining your health, giving you opportunities, providing through your work, developing your skills, giving you relationships, and strengthening you day by day.

Yet because these things do not always feel dramatic, we may fail to call them God's blessing.

Could this be why we sometimes struggle with gratitude? Could we be looking for something extraordinary while overlooking what God is already doing?

    Try today

For today, stop looking for something spectacular and pay deliberate attention to the quiet ways God is leading, sustaining, or providing for you, write them down.

    Reflect

Where have I been so focused on waiting for a miracle that I have failed to appreciate or steward the blessing already present in my life?
